Rabbi Lance Sussman returns to Temple Beth Shalom, Brigantine to discuss one of the most interesting and unknown aspects of the American Jewish experience — the role of Jews in the creation of rock ‘n roll. Rock ‘n roll proved to be more than a new genre of music, representing a cultural shift in the United States.

Rock ‘n roll began in the late 1940’s/early 1950’s when Jewish businesses began collaborating with Black musicians. Jewish DJ’s also played a role in creating rock ‘n roll. In time, Jewish composers and performers began to create new types of rock ‘n roll. Finally, rock ‘n roll made its way into Jewish culture in the U.S. and Israel. We will cover all of these developments and more.
