Adult Education: Contemporary Issues in Holocaust Studies

New Jersey is one of a dozen states that mandate Holocaust education in schools from kindergarten through 12th grade.  Doug Cervi will discuss his new role as Executive Director for the Commission on Holocaust Education to assist all schools, organizations, elected officials, and others with the study of the Holocaust and genocide.  Doug will review the steps he plans to take to help every student in New Jersey understand that“being a bystander only allows bullies on any level to advance their agenda.”You will not want to miss this inside view of educational programming at all school levels.

More about Doug Cervi:

Doug received his BA degree in History Education from Widener College and a MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies from Stockton University.  Doug was a former Social Studies teacher and coach at Oakcrest High School, Mays Landing, for more than four decades.  Upon retiring, he transferred his passion for Holocaust Education, and for the past six years has served as Adjunct Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Stockton University. Doug has recently accepted the position of Executive Director of the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education.  State of New Jersey Education Commissioner,Dr. Lamont Repollet said, “Doug will help ensure that educators have the resources needed to teach students about the Holocaust and genocide, and he will serve as a resource for communities and organizations to promote awareness of the work of the commission” He is a captain in the New Jersey National Guard and lives in Mays Landing with his wife, Kelly, and son.
