Adult Education: Klezmer: American Music

- This event has passed.
February 4, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Temple Beth Shalom, Brigantine, proudly presents Seth Kibel, a talented, knowledgeable, entertaining artist who specializes in Jewish music, both as lecturer and as a talented musician.
Seth combines both of these talents as he presents the following 2 solo lecture presentations:
Thursday, February 4th – Klezmer: American Music – 7:00 p.m.
An exciting presentation that traces the history and evolution of Klezmer Music from the Old World up to the present day and modern Klezmer revival. Klezmer music which literally means “tool of song” in Yiddish, is the secular folk music of the Jews of Central and Eastern Europe. This engaging session includes vintage audio/video clips and “live” performances that makes this program as exciting as the music itself.
Thursday, February 18th – The Jews of American Jazz – 7:00 p.m.
Seth follows his Klezmer program with an examination of the personalities, lives and careers of Jewish-American musicians including Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Stan Getz, Terry Gibbs, and others whose pioneering contributions shaped this uniquely American genre of jazz music. Classic recordings, video clips, and “live” performances from Seth make this course swing like jazz itself!
All are welcome to join us for these free 2 solo programs via Zoom
