Temple Beth Shalom Covid Policies

Based on the evidence of the present low state of COVID illness in New Jersey and Atlantic County in particular, and having reviewed the state and CDC guidelines related to the present situation, The Wellness Committee would recommend the following changes to the previous Temple Beth Shalom COVID-19 policy.
* We encourage all Temple members who wish to participate in in-person events at the Shul to remain up to date with COVID-19 vaccines including recommended booster doses.
* We encourage individuals to avoid contact with people who have suspected or confirmed disease and if they have recently been in such a situation to not participate in live synagogue activities.
* If an individual has a suspected or confirmed case, he/she should not participate until he/she has been well for 10 days and tests negative for disease.
* Individuals may choose to wear a mask at any time.
* Ventilation improvements within the facility should be maintained. (see CDC’s https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/Improving-Ventilation-Home.html)
* Experts no longer recommend “social distancing” and therefore no seating assignments will be instituted for congregants. However, if an individual feels uncomfortable returning to full socialization, arrangement will be attempted to accommodate such a person.
* If an individual is at high risk of getting sick, he/she should talk with a healthcare provider about additional prevention actions.

TEMPLE BETH SHALOM FIREARMS POLICY OCTOBER 2023

Considering recent changes in firearms laws which make it possible for citizens in NJ to obtain a permit to carry a firearm, and in consultation with local police and external security advisors, Temple Beth Shalom firearms policy is as follows: No one may bring a firearm or other weapon into Temple Beth Shalom or onto its premises except for qualified Law Enforcement and Security officers under HR 218 and PL 2004 c134, respectively as authorized by Temple Beth Shalom.

Anyone other than those listed above who request approval will be expected to provide the following:

• NJ FID

• NJ concealed carry permit

• Details of firearms training

• Qualification details

• Evidence of liability insurance

Anyone in violation of this policy will be escorted from the premises and may be subject to criminal, civil, or other penalties under NJ law. We continue to actively evaluate our security operations and policies to always ensure our safety in shul, and our weapons policy is consistent with that objective.

All congregants who are interested in contributing to the security of the shul are urged to volunteer for the Temple Beth Shalom Security Committee.
