High Holidays Hazzan

Meet our 5784/2023 High Holidays Hazzan, Cantor Gail Foorman!

Cantor Gail Foorman is very much looking forward to serving as Temple Beth Shalom’s Hazzan for High Holidays this year. Originally from Oakland, California, she began singing and playing guitar at the age of seven, but her inspiration to lead religious services blossomed at her Bat Mitzvah and matured in High School when she was asked to help her Rabbi lead services when her Cantor was on vacation. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker continuously in practice since 1989, her love of Hazzanut and devotion to the Jewish community has continued throughout her life. She has remained deeply connected to Judaism and has served as a leader in the Jewish community through her work as a Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutor, Jewish educator, songleader, Cantorial Soloist, and Rabbinical student before studying for the Cantorate extensively over several years as a part of the Cantorial Intern of the Cantors Assembly (CICA) program of the Conservative Movement, to which she was admitted in 2021. Cantor Foorman lives with her husband, Craig, in the suburbs of Atlanta, where they have been blessed to raise their son, William.
